The 41-year-old star wasn’t quite happy with the direction in which the radio interview was going and she kind of cut the ‘Kyle & Jackie O’ chat interview short when the hosts mentioned her good friend Drew Barrymore’s troubled past, as well as her new romance with “Good Charlotte” rocker Benji Madden.
Namely, she took part in a radio interview for Australia’s KIIS 106.5 and Cameron stated that the young actress in her new controversial new movie “Sex Tape” was similar to Drew in “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial,” and everything went smoothly until she was offended by the comments that came afterwards.
However, Kyle Sandilands, the host of the radio show, pushed the envelope an inch too far when he made a sensitive reference to Drew entering rehab twice until the age of 14, which left Cameron silent for a while.
Kyle then tried to fix the awkward situation he got himself into by saying: “Let’s hope she misses out on the Drew Barrymore drug years, because those were a great thing to watch, but not so good to be in, I’d imagine,” he joked. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
Cameron luckily managed to maintain her composure and sarcastically replied: “I’m sure, Kyle, you’ve never been through a drug phase, have you? Or alcoholism or anything like that? Pretty clean… always did it right? Congratulations,” she overtly defended her long-term friend, Drew.
The presenter then continued to taunt the actress by saying: “Hang on a second, but I’m friends with Benji…” which must have made Cameron furious. Luckily, Kyle managed to wrap up the interview before the taunted actress had the time to strike back. “We have to go now…. sorry, they’re wrapping us up.”
We are hoping Kyle and Cameron don’t meet in public anytime soon, since Cameron is one feisty lady.
